Sunny Side of Life
December 15/2018

One of the top most tropical vacation points in the entire world is the Maldives. A country surviving a few feet above sea level, the island nation usually experiences an average temperature of 30°C during the day and 28°C at night. Although it may be the “Sunny Side of Life”, what would you do when it rains?

Maldives being situated in the equator gives it the luxury of abstaining from the four distinct seasons. Instead, the island nation experiences two significant monsoons where it is rather stormy in one, and very dry in the other. Even old historic poems describe the Hulhangu Monsoon for its strong winds, rough seas and endless rain. The rainy seasons comes from June until early December. However, it does not mean it will rain throughout, meaning it will have some nice sunny weeks as well.

Chances of raining are high in Hulhangu Monsoon, but it will also rain unexpectedly in Iruvai Monsoon as well. Your vacation is not over if it rains, it only gets better. Day rains are the best to go out on the concrete or sandy streets to jump in puddles, especially through the humid coolness and thin drizzles. If you did not know, jump in the sea while it rains as the seawater naturally warms up experiencing the nature’s hot tub.

If you do not enjoy the cool 27°C rain, you can always stay in your suite to have black tea and warm short-eats. Freshly-made Bajiyaa is a local crave during the storms, as well as the HuniRoshi (Coconut Flatbread) and Rihaakuru combo. Well, if you are into neither why not enjoy a warm cuddle with your partner or indulge in a good book until the cloud clears out.
