Humble & Patience - Rests a Queen
October 16/2018

Where there were once shallow lagoons at the reef side of Male’, lay Sultan Ali IV (Ali Rasgefaanu) who died in battle against the Portuguese Invasion in 1558. Betrayed by the Catholic-Maldivian Hassan IX who assigned Andhiri Andhirin to rule recklessly over the Maldive islands. While this nightmare-like reign of over 16 years scarred Maldivians, her highness Kanba Aisha Rani Kilegefan, wife of Late Sultan Ali suffered miserably, alive.

Mother to the next heir to the throne, Queen Aisha resided silently in Male’ still fresh off the emotional trauma of losing her husband, the throne and the nation. Recently widowed, she was forced to marry the king’s tax collector known as Viyazoaru. He had taken her highness and her daughter as far as to the Nothern Thiladhummathi Atoll, where he set shop at Baarah island.

No records of her were found, but indeed her suffering is unimaginable. Losing her husband, and marrying a loyal to her nephew (the betrayer), she was left devastated. She rests in the beautiful vintage cemetery at Baarah, Haa Alif Atoll forever remembered as the patient and the humble, Kanba Aisha Rani Kileygefaanu.
